The Problem
In an era of increasing online censorship and data tracking, there is a strong need for a platform where individuals can engage in open, anonymous discourse without fear of reprisal or surveillance. Traditional social media and polling sites often lack true anonymity, limiting honest discussion on sensitive topics like politics.
The Solution
I developed "Spolls," an uncensored, anonymous poll-based discussion platform. It's a full-stack web application that allows users to anonymously create polls, vote, and comment. The platform prioritizes freedom of speech by ensuring that user identity is completely detached from their content, fostering genuine and unfiltered discussions.
My Role & Responsibilities
As the sole developer, I designed and built the entire application. My responsibilities included architecting a secure and scalable back-end to handle anonymous user interactions and a real-time polling system. On the front-end, I created a clean and intuitive user interface to make it easy for users to post, vote, and comment. I also implemented a robust data model to maintain the anonymity of users while tracking poll results and comments.
The Technology Stack
Front-End: React, Tailwind
Back-End: TypeScript, Neon, Hono
Database: Neon Postgress
The Outcome/Impact
Spolls provides a unique space for unfiltered conversation, attracting a user base that values privacy and free expression. The platform successfully demonstrates the ability to create a functional and engaging social application that can scale to handle real-time data while preserving user anonymity. It has become a valuable resource for discussing a wide range of trending topics without the constraints of typical online forums.
